As the beat drops
My heart breaks.
As the crowd cheers
My eyes dart.
With lights flashing
my guard becomes sky-high and castle-wall-thick.
As bodies press together
and sweat runs down their faces,
I look for exits, for escape.
While cups are emptied
and only ice is left,
as new friends are made
and numbers exchanged,
I scan the crowd
looking for threats, for danger-
hoping to find only peace.
It’s not what I call fun.
It’s not what I call pleasant.
I march out biting back the tears that are threatening to overtake my face.
Father, show them there is more to life than what I just saw.
Show them there is purpose and perfect love right at their finger tips.
Protect them from their desires.
Fight for them; pursue them; change them.
