My small group is going through Jeremiah right now. I think the most well-known verse in Jeremiah is found in chapter 29 verse 11 where God promises to have a plan for our lives. I love that verse. I often think about it when I’m questioning God’s purpose or praying about the next step in my future.
However, I’ve never actually read the entire passage from which it was taken. I just clung onto that piece of it, never digging deeper.
…until last night.
And the verses right after tugged at my heart. A lot.
Jeremiah 29:12-13: ‘ Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.’ (ESV)
This passage lead me to question whether I have been seeking my Father will my entire heart or if I have been negotiating with Him (You know if You did this, it’d really be the best for Your Kingdom….I trust You so continue being faithful by doing that…)
I’m not praying to a weak, dead God. My God is alive, active, and omnipotent. He wants me to reveal my heart to Him and pray faithfully to Him. He has a plan for me, a purpose, a reason for the good and the hard in my life. What He’s asking for in return is heart-felt prayers, faith, and trust.
…the three most difficult areas for me to live out.
